wp.me — The SnoMan has discovered what some have long known — that hammocks are superb outdoor gear. Light, compressible, and versatile, they are quick to set up and strike, and can be set up as a bivy if trees are unavailable. With a proper tarp, they protect you just as well as a tent, and in greater comfort. Here we check out the Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7 double-layer, manufactured by Warbonnet Outdoors (www.warbonnetoutdoors.com). Among “hangers” this hammock is called the WBBB.

Cons or disadvantage of a hammock? They are cold to lie or sleep in. In the winter you lose the lightweight advantage. Where do you put your gear? In a high tree? There’s not much room in your Hammock for stuff. In bad weather you can only lay in your Hammock. What about sitting? It’s a one person thing. What about your partner, no cuddling during high wind and lower degrees :p Your getting cold and lonelily, haha. But I would like to have this Hammock for all the other reasons :-) ) Nice review.

I use to sleep in a hammock. Used my poncho as a tarp. Got it off someone who didn’t need it anymore. I was in SE Asia, 1970.

What would you say the packed dimensions are in the Bishop Bag? Around the 0:50 mark in the video

First I would like to congratulate you on getting probably the best hammock around. That thing rocks. Second, for advice all I can give you is watch anything from Shug. He has a 15 epic episode “How To” videos that are a must see. Lastly, now is when camping becomes enjoyable……

Yeah, stomach sleepers really should abstain from hammocks.

It’s all fun and games until you realize you’re a stomach sleeper. Bad memories.

You guys who have been thinking about getting a hammock, let me help take the stress out of trying them out. If you get buyer’s remorse, you’ll have no trouble *at all* unloading your purchase at the hammock forums. They have a very active for sale forum, and a good deal moves literally in minutes. You could sell your hammock at a small discount and only lose a few bucks for trying it out.

  17. SNOmultimedia Says:

Yep, done it many times! And when I want to get away from it all, I hike ten minutes into the woods, lol.

  18. SNOmultimedia Says:

They’re both very good hammocks, and about the same price when similarly equipped. I like the WBBB foot box, though.

I had my sights set on a grand trunk Skeeter beeter for my first hammock, but you presented some good points about this one. Thanks.
