I thought I had a lot of .45s. I have a 1917 Revolver as well, a Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt (With ACP cylinder), Glock 21 and a Colt 1911 Brazilian Contract.

Most, if not all 45acp is subsonic. If you are shooting 230gr 45 acp it is subsonic. 185gr or 165gr+p might go supersonic. Depending on air temp, the speed of sound is usually around 1150 feet per second. Most 45 acp has a muzzle velocity of around 900fps give or take depending on bullet weight and barrel length. Most of what you hear with a .45 is the muzzle blast.

One of the First Guns I brought over 50 years ago was a Colt 1911 45 ACP,I hated it,than and now.I even had a 45 ACP Revolver can’t remember for sure but I believe it was a S&W liked it better than The 1911,But still not a 45 fan. I have owned a Ruger 44 magnum Single Six, not a fan there either. Carried a 357 on duty but loaded with 38. So much for big recoil cannons.
Today at the Range I fired My S&W CS 9 a pleasure,My Ruger LC9 had my finger nails biting in.My Walther P22 a joy, recoil suck
