MRE (Meal, Ready to Eat) Menu No. 5 Grilled Chicken (packed 2007) CONTENTS -Chicken Breast -Cornbread Stuffing -Wheat Snack Bread -Cheese Spread with Jalapenos -Caramel Apple Ranger Bar -Reese’s Pieces -French Vanilla Cappuccino Powder -BBQ Sauce -Accessory Pack “B” (Iced Tea, Matches, Salt, Moist Towelette, Gum, Toilet Paper) -Flameless Ration Heater -Hot Beverage Bag -Spoon This MRE had a date code of 7108, meaning it was packed on the 108th day of 2007. All in all this was a very good meal that held up well despite being five years old. The only exception was the Cornbread Stuffing–which was a bit of a disappointment. It was very bland and boring. The chicken itself tasted fine.

Chili Mac with the jalapeno cheese spread is amazing!

It was the first time I’d had the stuffing and I was rather disappointed. Expected it to be much better. Maybe if it was crumbled up and hit with some seasoning it would be better?

That “stuffing” looks horrifying.

Unless you know someone in the service or have other connections your best bet is probably to find them in surplus and Army/Navy stores. Maybe someone else will be able to give more suggestions.

Thank you, and I agree. While it might seem “odd” to actually enjoy eating these things it’s nice to know that there are at least a few of us out there! There certainly are all different tastes, and I hope that someone who hates the idea of eating these things wouldn’t mind having one if a natural disaster hot their hometown and it was the only thing to eat. It’s not a gourmet, homemade meal by any means, but for what it is it’s pretty good stuff.

Some people hear “combat ration” and are all like yuck I’ll never eat it… But me I think it’s pretty good i mean cmon all you need is hot water and you’re ready to eat… It’s easy and delicious but hey everyone got different taste. Good video sir.

That’s actually nice to hear. It seems like so many people look at these and just say “Yuck!” without giving them a chance.

I don’t really find MREs very funny in general, but that one aspect is hilarious! You’d think they’d change the wording after all these years, but maybe it’s become sort of a tradition. Maybe the government has a sense of humor?

ROCK OR SOMETHING
Oh, god. I shouldn’t have laughed as much as I did.

@0122358 eat the recess pieces at lunch to be more full
September 9th, 2012 at 8:10 am
I think it comes with a different packaging now, it’s called a “Hooah” or “Oorah” bar, depending on which branch the service member is in. This link might help clear up the confusion.
September 9th, 2012 at 8:12 am
what i meant was that IF you had to, you could stretch it out
September 9th, 2012 at 8:14 am
Not quite. This is *one meal* – the Americans went to the Combat Meal rather than the 24-hour ration after WW2. Effectively meal and snacks.

The heater will continue to produce some heat for at least half an hour or so. But it does get less hot over that time. It’s possible to heat one pouch at time if you time it right, but it’s probably easier (and more convenient) to simply try to fit both pouches (or one pouch and your coffee…) into the bag at the same time to ensure the best heating. The heater can be used in a sleeping bag, jacket or as a hand warmer after heating your meal until it totally runs out of heat.

I’ve been wondering this, how long does that flame-less heater run? Can it last long enough to cook both the stuffing and chicken separately, or can it just heat up the meal?
