Disaster Preparedness: Water

Fri, Jul 8, 2011

Videos

Since water is so vitally important, and because so much of it is needed for survival, we should prepare for a disaster now, by storing as much as we practically can, and by making preparations for collecting additional water. Since the water we collect will most likely be contaminated, we will also need to be prepared to filter and purify our water.
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Here is my humble contribution for those who may still need some ideas on what others are doing to prepare for this second dip in the economic downfall. Thanks to all those who have contributed. Stay prayerful, keep God first and help others.

@lowfatjello1 When you purchase your water filter, be sure to get one that removes the fluoride from your water. Also go on a no-TV fast and watch prisonplanet.tv. It will take time but that fuzzy-headed condition that you hare accepted as normal will eventually clear up.

@USFA45LC They are extremely heavy (water weighs 8 lbs per gallon times 55 equals 440 lbs just for the water not counting the barrel.) I wouldn’t recommend it with plastic barrels. I use the space above them to store other things that are not so heavy. If you had to stack them you probably could if you laid them down on their sides.

Anyone know if those 55G plastic barrels can be stacked when filled with water?

In the very near future, nanotech catalysts will allow for energy efficient desalinization of ocean water. There are also methods of mass producing cheap solar distillation devices that will float on the ocean and use the sun’s heat to make drinking water. The current trends project water shortage without factoring in the bleeding edge technologies. However, the future is in the future and may be stymied by some unforeseeable disaster.

tap water has a lot of very bad things in it, i dont recommend drinking it. fluoride, lithium, ect.

  10. TheBrotherMo Says:
    July 8th, 2011 at 6:09 pm

@TheBrotherMo BTW, it desalinates water so you can pump fresh water from any source. It’s self cleaning and doesn’t clog, since it uses reverse osmosis. AND… it removes bacteria, viruses, fungal spores, heavy metals, pesticides, etc….

It simply removes everything except water.

  11. TheBrotherMo Says:
    July 8th, 2011 at 6:24 pm

Katadyn Survivor 35 will desalinate ocean water.

It’s the only pump in the world that will make fresh water from any water source at 35 gallons a day. So, the ocean becomes your tap.

I was able to pick one up cheap on Amazon.

@thenewsurvivalist Thank you for all this really helpful info.
I would like to stress, the time element soaking in the chlorine can be as important as the amount. Some bacteria are tough and you must be patient to allow the chlorine time to do its work. It has to penetrate the membrane of the bacteria in order to kill it.

  13. thenewsurvivalist Says:
    July 8th, 2011 at 8:15 pm

@jkmcdani 3 drops of chlorine bleach per qt (or liter) of water & agitate. Double if the water is turbid. Let the water stand for 30 min. then smell it. There should be a slight odor of chlorine. If there is no chlorine odor repeat the process and let the water stand for another 30 min. An alternative to chlorine bleach is 2% tincture of iodine (the iodine used for treating minor wounds.) Use 5 drops of iodine tincture per qt of water and let it stand for 30 minutes. For more see my web site.

    July 8th, 2011 at 8:28 pm

How much chlorine is needed to purify water for drinking? Is this the most cost effective purification method for a bug in situation?

  15. thenewsurvivalist Says:
    July 8th, 2011 at 8:49 pm

@aquaticpetzsub0 It takes a LOT of energy (gas, wood, electric, etc.) to boil water. Boiling is a last resort when you have no other way of making your drinking water safe, especially when bacterial contamination is high. It is completely impractical to use boiling as your primary method of water purification when you can do it more more efficiently with good filters.

  16. aquaticpetzsub0 Says:
    July 8th, 2011 at 8:51 pm

    @aquaticpetzsub0
When you say lots of energy do you mean your physical energy or do you mean the energy that it takes to power the fire?

  17. thenewsurvivalist Says:
    July 8th, 2011 at 9:13 pm

@aquaticpetzsub0 Yes you can boil your water but that takes a lot of energy. It is much more cost effective to filter your water.

  18. aquaticpetzsub0 Says:
    July 8th, 2011 at 9:35 pm

Is it not possible to boil water in a container such as metal or steel and this will result in it being sterile/drinking water.

When this happens, there will be 4 groups of people.
    1. People who stored food.
    2. People who stored seeds. (Good in a long run)
    3. People who stored silver and gold.
    4. People who did not believe this would ever happen or people who have procrastinated. (The worst posistion you can be in.)

For those who deny this: History tends to repeat it self. Those who don’t learn history are doomed to repeat it.
    AKA
This shit happened before & in other countries, it can happen here too, and soon.

@mountainsandsea These earth changes will run thru 2014. Financial collapse should happen in less than a year. They have been propping up the economy for about 2 years or so now so it can go at anytime. They are now waiting for a big earth change event so they can blame the economy collapsing on that. I notice people are stocking up but shouldn’t you all be leaving the city & growing your own food ? Starting now. 270 million guns in USA & those who didn’t prepare are gonna come for what you have

  40. rev477 Says:

    @RealityChkIts21stCen
For anyone thinking along these lines the “US” is really about who is in control & that is rich elite people who feel they must kill off a large chunk of the population as we are actually headed for a crisis … we took until 1960 to reach 1 billion people & now 50 years later we are 7 billion & we are making babies … water, food shortage etc.. it is true that we can’t handle that many people so they are doing a controlled demolition. That should explain all conspiracy.
