The movie”the trigger effect ” lays out a scenario of the power grid going down in los angeles and then the problems start

@Sailorfl I never said Rawles was a nut-case. I said the book was poorly written, the characters are awful, one dimensional (at best) and basicly all the same character, but with different names. And how much “courage” does it take to write a book where the characters are all super prepared, live in an armored fortress with illegal weapons and explosives, and never face off against a real challenge?

That’s my problem with this book.

  5. Sailorfl Says:
    March 31st, 2011 at 12:10 pm

@naughtyfeline Probably can’t read. Do the research sweetie. This guy has called it time and time again. What do you think? The government is going to save us? Get real. The book is fiction, pre-historical fiction, backed with fact. James Rawles is NOT a nut case. He’s for real and has more balls than most guys out there. I truly appreciate his courage and expertise. When the gangs come to your house looking for food and free nookie I’ll be in a safe place covering my ass with brass!

  6. juse1101 Says:

Disagree – when you read what Rawles’ intent was with writing Patriots, it was as an “intsructional manual in the form of a fiction story”. In my pursuit of being prepared, I’ve incorporated many ideas that Rawles advocates, have come up with many other ideas that suit my particular location/situation, all stemming from something Rawles wrote.

I wouldn’t write off Patriots, nor would I write of his other book “How To Survive TEOTWAWKI”

    Diff. strokes for diff. folks…

  7. juse1101 Says:

As a JWR fan, I have to both agree and disagree.

Agree – Yes. Patriots isn’t a pulitzer-calibre novel. Nor was it much of a story compared to books like Forstchen wrote. If you read the book for a story, it lacks somewhat, or is comparable to a novel written for 12yr olds that love guns and boy scout stuff…

@naughtyfeline lol, kay I think I get the point, doesn’t sound like my cup of tea either.

  9. naughtyfeline Says:
    March 31st, 2011 at 1:56 pm

@asderathos Not at all, my friend. I’m a big survivalism fan. I have books like One Second After, The Ship, Luficer’s Hammer and so on and I like them all. The writing in JWR’s book Patriots is just, terrible. There’s not nearly enough room in this comment thing to bring up many examples.

Basicly, his characters live in an armor-plated house with 3 years supply of food on hand, 100,000′s of rounds of ammo and they’re all really crazy. I’ll send you a message.

  10. asderathos Says:
    March 31st, 2011 at 1:56 pm

@naughtyfeline I haven’t read it, [so I cannot agree or disagree] but could it be you’re just not a fan of the genre or style? IE Survivalism?

  11. naughtyfeline Says:
    March 31st, 2011 at 2:23 pm

Sorry, but this guy’s book is terrible.

@R2BILL2 I’m not with the A&G Show, just a fan.
It was to add a lil lightheartedness to all the doom; Rawles thought it was funny =P

  14. R2BILL2 Says:
    March 31st, 2011 at 4:25 pm

Not being critical of the show, but why do ya’ll show a picture of Micheal Gross from the movie Tremors?

@eddiedaskull You’re thinking of “Tremors”, and that’s because I just used a pic of The Guy from Tremors as a bit of a gag (Rawles found it pretty funny himself :)

gold cannot be eaten, why hump this stuff around in lieu of food hoping to run into someone willing to trade it for food! as far as m and ms go, jejjybellies keep better!!!

  26. sigridism Says:
    March 31st, 2011 at 10:30 pm

I thought the whole idea of creating a food storage supply was to ensure the survival of our families. Your family will be dead by the end of a week eating those toxic ideas, that’s not food. Don’t play into the hands of the government by eating the chemicals that they mandated to be put on the grocery shelves and sell it to us as food. There is a good reason why it is so cheap to sell and why so many people can buy 10 for 10, it’s not real food. Only store the food that you’ve been growing.

  27. fullfist Says:

Canned goods only last a year or two, you can eat it after the expiration date, but they do start to lose nutrition ie. your belly will feel full but you may get ill due to malnutrition. There are freeze dried and dehydrated foods that last more than 15 years before losing nutritional value. This is the site I like: Check it out. They even give you free samples to make sure you like it! You can get the samples try one flavor and put the rest in your bug out bags!

That looks more like a worn-in food pantry, I’d stock up more non-perishables and canned products, MRE’s, and store them in mylar bags + keep non sealed food in bin containers with oxy packets, also how do you keep roaches and ants at bay??

Impressive! Just out of interest, is there much point in stockpiling currency? In a situation where food and water are not available I would assume that coins waould be mostly usless. Do you have a precious metal stash as well?

good job dude. I am impressed. Just reminds me of how really far I have to go. Have to balance money spent on food with that spent on silver and weaponry. You know us silly people in the flyover states clinging to our bibles and guns lol.
